Wonder Woman
TH | 2017-2018
Drag shows are mostly disregarded in societies because feminity is still perceived as a negative and weak feature. How could it even be considered as Art? Society, especially Thai society, is challenged today in accepting the figure of strong women which Drags, in a way, embody.
Drag is a kind of Art, it is entertaining but it is also political. Through entertainment, it subtlety tackles certain issues and raises questions that wake up traditions in Thailand. It acts as a soft power to influence and change mindset. Drag Queens are contemporary Wonder Women.
I met with one of those Wonder Women, Pan Pan Nakprasert, also known as Pangina Heals “Yes I am an artist, my face is the canvas I paint on, my hair is a sculpture, my dresses are my designs, I am a dancer and a comedian”. He achieved to combine all the different Arts he studied into one. Drag or not, Artists have the same things in common: passion, craze and beauty.
